Objective:
To bring my unique photojournalism perspective, ability to perform under deadline and talent for capturing moments of emotion to a mid-sized daily.

Experience:
Photo Editor/Chief Photographer; Forest Grove News-Times, April 1998 to present. Duties include shooting events ranging from sports to theatrical dress rehearsals to breaking news. Scanning negatives, slides and flatbed images to prepare for publication as well as budgeting and working closely with reporters are a large part of the photo editor position.

Owner; Jason Applegate Photography; 1998 to present. Hired to photograph business events, weddings and sports events. Frequently hired for custom portraits, including work for musicians, politicians and sports figures.

Technical Skills:
Versed in traditional darkroom techniques, as well as digital darkroom and web site work flow. Hardware: 35mm, medium format, digital cameras and storage devices. Nikon Coolscan and Umax 2200 scanner for prints, transparencies and negatives. Software: Adobe Photoshop 5.5, Microsoft Word and Excel. Currently work in Windows 98 format, familiar with Macintosh platform.

Awards:
First Place, Best Page One Design; 2001 ONPA Better Newspaper Contest, contributed all photos for award presented to Forest Grove News-Times.

First Place, Best News Photo; 2000 ONPA Better Newspaper Contest, "Lockdown at Banks High School."

Second Place, Best Sports Photo; 2002 ONPA Better Newspaper Contest, "Arne Fuchs swims to best time"

Second Place, Best Institutional Image Ad; 2000 ONPA Better Newspaper Contest, Took all photos for the four-page advertisement wrap, "Welcome McMenamins."

Third Place, Best Photo Essay, 2001 ONPA Better Newspaper Contest; "All the Right Moves". Photo essay about chess programs at Neil Armstrong Middle School.

Volunteer Work:
Volunteer at Good Shepard Home for Disabled Adults in Cornelius since 1997. I spend time taking residents on outings, as well as socializing and bringing the outside world into their home.

I also enjoy mentoring and instructing local high school students in photography for their respective school papers. I thoroughly enjoy photography and get excited knowing I can help make their experience more fun.
